This is a very Heavy Duty pack! Been using it for about 1.5 years now and the bag itself is very sturdy and taking the forest abuse very well. Been through maybe 7-8 hiking/camping trips and 6-7 airport travels. So far the bag itself is as it was when it was new everything is holding up. However, zippers on this bag aren’t of great quality even though they are very big they fail. 2 main zippers have failed almost right away after purchase. They fail in a way that you can still use the zippers…pretty much one of the zipper handles gets stuck and the 2nd can be used so its no big deal. I think if you don’t abuse the zippers you’ll be fine. Recently the top chest clip cracked in half, but its the standard type so you can replace it easily. The biggest problem with this bag is that it’s very heavy even when its empty. I wouldn’t suggest this bag if your load is heavy by itself and you need to go far with the heavy load. This bag is great for camping or short trips. If it wasn’t for its weight i wouldn’t mind getting this bag again. I also would like to mention that shoulder straps have some padding and so does the back of the pack. So its pretty comfy.

  • How do i start “WOW” I really like the integrated side compartments, most models dont come with them. I was really impressed with the robust shoulder straps reinforced with 2″ webbing. Also no shorrtage of pockets for your webbing and gear. A fantastic quality product, I will be buying more from seller!

  • I have used & abused this pack hiking around the Alaskan wilderness – and it keeps on taking a beating.

    The only thing that would make this better, in my opinion, is if I could get someone else to carry it for me.

  • Ok first off this thing is meant for someone car camping (etc) or someone who’s only going out for a couple days. Anyone who tries to use it as a “real” camping backpack (like me) is going to be disappointed. So why the 4 stars? Well, because it does what its MEANT to do very well.

    First off there are three very nice sized pocket on the exterior of the pack (two to the sides and one to the rear). Good for cooking utensils, flashlights, ropes, cords, chemlights, tools, etc. The two on the side are about the size of a box of chicken broth and the one the back could hold two of them laid lengthwise (and also has a zippered mesh pocket in it).

    The main cargo area has tie-down straps and lots of meshed pockets with lots of room to put plenty of stuff. On the exterior of this compartment are two extra pockets (one U-zippered top loaded and one side loaded) with the bigger of the two have some nice “small” organization areas.

    The material is pretty heavy duty, the padding is adequate though as a smaller guy, I end up having to cinch the shoulder straps all the way in and don’t get much of the padding. Also, it has the military style MOLLE system attachments on it, so expanding the pack with after market items is easy and doable.

    Ok so problems…no built in areas for backpack/sleeping pad. Given, this pack isn’t really meant for that but as a camper it means I have to eat up internal space and while it has a surprising amount of it, it doesn’t have THAT much.

    No hip belt. This pack is meant for quick removal and it shows. One plastic clip for the chest belt means all the load is on your back/shoulders. If you fill it totally I could easily see 50-100 pounds (depending on gear of course) on you and you need to be fit to be carrying that all on your back/shoulders.

    Other than that, a nice pack. Good for the car camper/someone who wont be hiking too far into the backcountry.

    I like this Camelbak, it fits well, but false advertising by Camelbak on how it accommodates MP3 players. Marketing material says has an MP3 holder but only some years and some colors actually have the port for the earphones. I thought Camelbak was smarter than that. I don’t get their inconsistency. I waited for the new model because it said it had an MP3 holder, but it’s just the regular pocket and I have to leave the zipper partially open for the headphone wires. Like the Camelbak, bummed about them creating a false expectation. And why DON’T they have a port for the earphones?

    As a long distance bicycle rider of 125-150 miles per week, you need stamina, good nutrition, and most importantly, hydration. The camelbal lets you sip Gatorade, water, or any liquid thru the straw in the easy to carry backpack; can’t live without it and have used if for years; Once you try it, you will feel the same way. It’s the best investment you can make for your riding and comfort.

    I was looking for a hydration pack that also had storage space, but was not too big or heavy, to use for mtn biking. I’m a small female, (5’3″, 108lbs)and everything I had tried were either too big or too bulky. I ordered the Magic, which is a specific women’s fit and it worked perfectly. I love it. The 1.2L reservoir is perfect for a 3 hour ride and it has 2 zippered compartments that allow me to carry my cell, camera, snack bar, sunscreen & bug wipes, chapstick, and money. There is additional storage just by loosening the side straps, where I can stuff my windbreaker, behind the bottom compartment. What I like best about the Magic is the fit. I’m short waisted and the Magic fits great on my back without being too long. It’s very comfortable thanks to the strategically place padding/ventilation and the wide shoulder straps and the waist strap gives extra security to eliminate bounce while mtn biking.

    I bought this Camelbak for my daughter to be used as a hydration system more than a backpack while cycling and it is perfect. It is more compact than the one I bought myself, but I wanted the extra room to use mine as a backpack, so I opted for the larger one. She wanted something that would feel “barely there” and look stylish and more comfortable. Its smaller reservoir makes it a lighter weight pack. When you fill it with ice and water, it helps to cool her back while riding too, although it is suttle. It does have ample pockets for her protein bars and other essentials while on the trails and she is very pleased with its quality and workmanship. All four of us have Camelbaks of varying types and sizes and we are all very happy with them. You can’t go wrong ordering this item as long as you realize its smaller capacity and overall smaller size. If you want a back pack for hiking with lots of extra room, this is not the pack for you.

    I researched hydration packs obsessively before going to Egypt (it being the desert and all). This was absolutely the perfect product for the trip. I often think “made for women” products are silly, but in this case, it’s true — my husband’s Camelbak is painful for me to carry, and this one felt weightless. It is perfect for small people (I am 5’2″); it holds plenty of water, even for the desert; and it has more storage than you’d think. It could possibly have used more space for carrying spare clothes; but it easily held my guide book, balance bars, hat, sunglasses, keys, chapstick, wallet, etc. My only criticism is that Camelbak needs to make covers for the suction part for sanitation. Otherwise, I think the Magic is about the greatest thing to happen to adventure traveling.
