Comment posted on MOLLE 3 Day Military Assault Pack Backpack – Black by S. Mallory

I have used & abused this pack hiking around the Alaskan wilderness – and it keeps on taking a beating.

The only thing that would make this better, in my opinion, is if I could get someone else to carry it for me.

  • This is a very Heavy Duty pack! Been using it for about 1.5 years now and the bag itself is very sturdy and taking the forest abuse very well. Been through maybe 7-8 hiking/camping trips and 6-7 airport travels. So far the bag itself is as it was when it was new everything is holding up. However, zippers on this bag aren’t of great quality even though they are very big they fail. 2 main zippers have failed almost right away after purchase. They fail in a way that you can still use the zippers…pretty much one of the zipper handles gets stuck and the 2nd can be used so its no big deal. I think if you don’t abuse the zippers you’ll be fine. Recently the top chest clip cracked in half, but its the standard type so you can replace it easily. The biggest problem with this bag is that it’s very heavy even when its empty. I wouldn’t suggest this bag if your load is heavy by itself and you need to go far with the heavy load. This bag is great for camping or short trips. If it wasn’t for its weight i wouldn’t mind getting this bag again. I also would like to mention that shoulder straps have some padding and so does the back of the pack. So its pretty comfy.

  • How do i start “WOW” I really like the integrated side compartments, most models dont come with them. I was really impressed with the robust shoulder straps reinforced with 2″ webbing. Also no shorrtage of pockets for your webbing and gear. A fantastic quality product, I will be buying more from seller!

  • Ok first off this thing is meant for someone car camping (etc) or someone who’s only going out for a couple days. Anyone who tries to use it as a “real” camping backpack (like me) is going to be disappointed. So why the 4 stars? Well, because it does what its MEANT to do very well.

First off there are three very nice sized pocket on the exterior of the pack (two to the sides and one to the rear). Good for cooking utensils, flashlights, ropes, cords, chemlights, tools, etc. The two on the side are about the size of a box of chicken broth and the one the back could hold two of them laid lengthwise (and also has a zippered mesh pocket in it).

The main cargo area has tie-down straps and lots of meshed pockets with lots of room to put plenty of stuff. On the exterior of this compartment are two extra pockets (one U-zippered top loaded and one side loaded) with the bigger of the two have some nice “small” organization areas.

The material is pretty heavy duty, the padding is adequate though as a smaller guy, I end up having to cinch the shoulder straps all the way in and don’t get much of the padding. Also, it has the military style MOLLE system attachments on it, so expanding the pack with after market items is easy and doable.

Ok so problems…no built in areas for backpack/sleeping pad. Given, this pack isn’t really meant for that but as a camper it means I have to eat up internal space and while it has a surprising amount of it, it doesn’t have THAT much.

No hip belt. This pack is meant for quick removal and it shows. One plastic clip for the chest belt means all the load is on your back/shoulders. If you fill it totally I could easily see 50-100 pounds (depending on gear of course) on you and you need to be fit to be carrying that all on your back/shoulders.

Other than that, a nice pack. Good for the car camper/someone who wont be hiking too far into the backcountry.

This is a very thin waterproof windbreaker. I thought that it would be warm, but it was just for rain.

This jacket is just as described. It is a light-weight, well constructed, truly waterproof jacket with lots of great features, at a fabulous price. The previous reviewer rated this based on their expectations, apparently without reading the description.

I purchased this jacket to replace a yellow pullover that had ceased to be waterproof after five years. I prefer keeping a lightweight rain jacket in my bag to carrying an umbrella. I am very pleased. It is exactly as depicted. I got the “New Moon” color and is is a very slightly lime tinged yellow. Visibility is a good thing on a bike and this color is visible. Three zippered pockets will hold everything I need. The hood folds into the collar. A well-made jacket that will probably give me a few years of good service. Longer in back for cycling. Nice bag to keep it in. Exactly what I was looking for.

  • NEW CUSCUS 7500ci Internal Frame Hiking Camp Backpack Travel Bag- Gray/Black
I took this as my ONLY baggage on a 4+ day trip hiking, rock climbing, kayaking and caving adventure to Alabama and it was excellent – worked well in the tent and has pockets that fit a Coleman camp stove and propane bottle plus clothing, shoes, ext., ext…..

  • NEW CUSCUS 7500ci Internal Frame Hiking Camp Backpack Travel Bag- Gray/Black
I decided to get this bag (the CUSCUS 120L) a few months after buying their 88L model – I liked the 88L & thought that this bag would be about 30% larger (120/88=1.36). To my utter and profound astonishment and dismay (and horror, and disgust), when it arrived I found out that it is NOT a 120 liter bag. I laid the new 120L on top of my 88L (both empty) and the 120L is slightly smaller than the 88L model.

I’m not sure how a company (CUSCUS apparently) is able to market two nearly identical bags in such a manner: the stitching on the sleeping bag compartment and the product name clearly imply that these bags are a different size, to say nothing of the product claims on both Amazon (by Adventurer’s Bag) and CUSCUS’s own site ([...]) where the 120L is described as being 23″(L) x 13″(W) x 34″(H) [note: if these were accurate measurements then the bag would be 10166ci - they only claim 8100ci for some reason, even though that would still require the bag to be over 18 inches deep, the W&H measurements seem accurate]

Here’s the kicker: the 120L came with a nice little tag on it describing the bag, the tag says the product dimensions are 36.5×23.5x73cm (this is just slightly less than 63 liters).

I was (eventually) able to get a full (cost+shipping) refund from Adventurer’s Bag, however they have failed to update their listing for this bag as I requested, so I’m writing this review to help Amazon customers make an informed decision.

Backpack buyers beware! Size specifications are “estimates” and can vary widely between manufacturers, unfortunately it appears that CUSCUS has abused this fact to falsely advertise one of it’s products.

    Summary:

CUSCUS 120L: sturdy, simple, cheap backpack. Approximately 80L in actual volume. Comes with “A reinforced handle at back for better holding” and a flimsy “FREE” rain cover.

CUSCUS 88L: sturdy, simple, cheap backpack. Approximately 80L in actual volume (slightly larger than the 120L). Nine (9) dollars cheaper when i ordered (though you still pay the outrageous shipping) – Spend less, get more.
